The 2026 seasonal influenza vaccines are now available at Hatherley Medical Centre. Each year the vaccine is reformulated to protect against the influenza strains most likely to circulate during the Australian winter, so a fresh vaccination is recommended every season — even if you were vaccinated last year.

Who is eligible for a free vaccine?

Under the National Immunisation Program (NIP), the flu vaccine is provided free of charge to:

– Children aged 6 months to under 5 years
– Pregnant women, at any stage of pregnancy
– People aged 65 years and over
– Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people aged 6 months and over
– People aged 6 months and over with certain medical conditions, including severe asthma, diabetes, heart disease, kidney disease, chronic lung conditions and impaired immunity

Private vaccinations

If you are not eligible under the NIP, private flu vaccinations are available at the practice for $15. This applies to most healthy adults aged between 5 and 64.

When should I get vaccinated?

Influenza activity in Western Australia typically peaks between June and September. Protection from the vaccine builds over about two weeks and lasts for the season, so the ideal time to be vaccinated is from April through to early June. It is still worthwhile being vaccinated later in the season if you have not yet had your shot.

How to book

Appointments can be booked online through HotDoc, or by calling reception on (08) 9310 4400. Please let us know at the time of booking if the vaccine is for a child, so we can allow extra time. Walk-in flu clinics are also held during peak season — keep an eye on our website and reception noticeboard for dates.

If you have any questions about whether the flu vaccine is right for you or your family, our GPs and nurses are happy to discuss it during your appointment.
